Our event Magento Lunch & Learn took place 17 November. It was a great day that saw representatives attend from more than 30 of The Pixel’s clients, all coming together to find out about Magento 2 and the steps to migration.
David Wise, Head of Strategic Partners, North Europe & Middle East at Magento, gave a talk focusing on the history and success of Magento, the path that has lead to Magento 2, and the kind of benefits merchants can expect when upgrading. He also outlined the road map ahead for the platform.

Stephen Leyton, Managing Director, and Duncan Ball, Senior Project Manager at The Pixel, delivered a step-by-step breakdown on how the company approaches a Magento 2 migration. The talk focused on the steps clients would need to take to ensure a successful transfer, such as data management (the trimming of database tables and data), delta migration (the incremental transfer from M1 to M2 over time), and an idea of the timescale and costs involved.

Event partners Nosto and Dotmailer talked about how their companies’ Magento extensions can benefit Magento 2 merchants. Stephanie Kershaw of Dotmailer’s presentation included a host of case studies and clients currently using Dotmailer and the Magento 2 platform, and Tom Wapshott & Rabia Qureshi of Nosto discussed the advantages of using the Nosto personalised shopping experience with the platform.

After lunch attendees were treated to a UX demonstration and team exercise from design partners Phoenix Wharf and Natural Interaction. Adam Babajee-Pycroft & Emma Gullick took us through the intricacies of on-screen design, and finished with a team exercise that involved each table creating their own design hypotheses to fulfill the needs of a client selling smart home surveillance systems. A tricky task that got everyone thinking and filling out their post-it notes!

We finished the day with a Q&A panel featuring both The Pixel and Magento. Clients were asked to provide questions for the team to answer about the Magento 2 transition. Hot topics such as the duration of support for Magento 1 & the future of the platform, and examples of successful migrations were all discussed, delivered by event co-ordination Kath Senior of The Pixel.

All that was left then was a few post-event drinks! Thanks to everyone that attended – we hope you came away Magento 2-wiser.
