Adobe Commerce Upgrades

When should I migrate?

Magento cut off support for Magento 1 at the end of June 2020, meaning Magento 1 websites have become increasingly difficult to support and operate.

If you haven't already done so, we recommend you carry out your migration to the Adobe Commerce (powered by Magento) platform.
Any development work begins with a discovery phase and lots of considerations about your requirements, so we recommend getting in touch with us to start the discussions early.

We already receive a lot of enquiries about migration to Adobe Commerce from Magento 1. If you want to be able to have a choice in who builds your Adobe Commerce site, don’t leave it to the last minute - get in touch today!
When should I migrate

Why has support stopped for Magento 1?

Magento 1 was released in 2008. In order for the platform to remain the leading open-source ecommerce platform, it is vital that the platform utilises the very latest coding standards to offer scalability, security and performance. All of this comes out-of-the-box with Adobe Commerce as well as a whole host of exclusive new features to power your website into the future.

Is it going to break the bank?

Migration to Adobe Commerce does not necessarily cost the same as a re-platform. However the process of getting to there is not just an upgrade – it’s a real opportunity to look at cleansing the data, re-evaluating functionality, remove redundancy & legacy code, or any other aspects of the website that are not critical to the business.

It is an excellent opportunity to revisit your site design; Adobe Commerce is built on a mobile first framework, a future-proofed platform that will enable you to realise the true potential of a fully responsive site to engage shoppers at every stage of their day.

From this point onwards any new features you want to develop on Magento 1 will be at your cost! In other words, every £ you now spend on Magento 1 will potentially need to be spent again on Adobe Commerce, once you upgrade.

How we perform an Adobe Commerce migration

The migration path consists of 3 processes:

Adobe has launched a brand new Marketplace specifically for Adobe Commerce. Many of the most popular M1 extensions that merchants are using today are likely to have already been redeveloped for the new platform.

Adobe are actively reaching out to vendors to ensure they update their extensions to the Adobe Commerce format. Although Marketplace is rapidly growing with extensions, if the module you require is not available then we can build this for you.
Themes and Customisation

Themes and customisations

Like extensions, current M1 themes will not work in Adobe Commerce. All the code will need to be refactored and rewritten from scratch. The benefits of this:
  • Themes will be built to the latest best practice
  • Speed performances
  • Greater adherence to Google’s requirements
  • An overall increase in usability
Data Migration

Data Migration

For the data migration, Adobe have created a flexible data migration tool to assist with migrating key data sets from M1 to Adobe Commerce. At its core, the tool is a command line tool that connects to a database that’s configured to hold M1 data.

Before running the initial data migration tool, we’ll help you decide what data needs to be migrated, and how best to determine that. It’s a great opportunity to clear up and remove redundancy.

Once the initial data migration is complete, we’ll use the delta migration facility to bridge the gap between the last data import and any new information that has come across. This allows merchants to take M1 data and perform the initial import ahead of time.
