What a night. Three Ecommerce Expo Awards - including Best Agency of the Year - and two fantastic wins for our work with Pet Drugs Online and Calor Gas.
They also reflect something that's been part of The Pixel for 25 years: Who Cares Wins. Care about the customer. Care about solving the right problem. Care about the details. Care about delivering an outcome that makes a measurable difference.
Our work with Pet Drugs Online and Calor Gas are two very different examples of that philosophy in action.
For Pet Drugs Online, performance is about more than convenience. Customers rely on the business for medication, food and recurring care products for their pets, so speed, clarity and reliability are fundamental to the experience.
Our ambition was significant: create one of the fastest commerce experiences in UK retail, without sacrificing analytics, experimentation, personalisation or SEO.Rather than treating speed as a series of frontend fixes, we tackled performance at an architectural level. Key storefront experiences including the homepage, product listings, search and product detail pages were progressively migrated to Adobe Edge Delivery Services, supported by Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe App Builder.
This incremental approach allowed us to validate improvements at each stage, while rethinking how scripts, product information and experimentation were delivered to prioritise what customers needed first.
The results were dramatic:
Importantly, speed wasn't achieved by stripping functionality away. The result combines exceptional performance with experimentation, analytics, SEO and greater release agility.
Calor Gas presented a completely different challenge: customer uncertainty.Buying LPG can be complicated. Customers need to understand fuel types, bottle sizes, appliance compatibility, delivery requirements and replacement rules - often for a purchase they make relatively infrequently.
Our challenge was to make that complexity feel simple without removing the information customers needed to make the right decision.
We started with customer evidence combining interviews, reviews, analytics, heatmaps, session recordings and usability testing to understand how people actually approached the buying journey. The research showed that customers didn't follow a neat path. They moved around the journey looking for reassurance checking compatibility, delivery and technical information before feeling confident enough to buy.
Product pages were redesigned around clearer, more scannable information, with compatibility and delivery guidance surfaced when customers needed it. We carried the same thinking into checkout, reducing unnecessary fields and creating clearer delivery choices and mobile-first interactions. The commercial impact was significant:
The result is an experience that makes a complicated purchase easier to understand and complete - turning greater customer confidence into measurable commercial performance.Different challenges. The same philosophy.
For Pet Drugs Online, the challenge was speed. For Calor Gas, it was confidence. But both demonstrate what we believe great ecommerce transformation should be about: understanding what really matters to customers, solving the underlying problem and measuring the impact.
Being named Best Agency of the Year is something we're immensely proud of. But ultimately, the real story is the work behind the awards and the brilliant teams at Pet Drugs Online and Calor Gas who trusted us, challenged us and worked alongside us to make it happen. Who Cares Wins.
