A Seamless, Scalable eCommerce Platform for Modern Learners

the University of law (Ulaw)

The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the UK’s most respected legal education providers, offering a wide range of online and on-campus programmes. To support growing demand and evolving student needs, ULaw needed a robust eCommerce platform to simplify course discovery and enrolment.

THE CHALLENGE

Bridging Brand and User Expectations

ULaw’s previous eStore didn’t fully align with the university’s modern digital brand or meet user expectations for mobile experience and ease of navigation. As the main access point for students purchasing courses and study materials, it needed to provide greater clarity, consistency, and responsiveness to support informed decision-making and reduce user friction.

THE APPROACH

Student Focused Scalable Design

We began with detailed customer journey mapping to identify how prospective students navigate course options based on location, mode, and time commitment. This led to the creation of a flexible product flow that allowed students to prioritise their own selection criteria. Working closely with the ULaw team, we applied a component-based design system consistent with the main university brand and implemented the Hyvä Magento theme to optimise performance. User testing guided refinements throughout, ensuring the experience was intuitive and future-ready, with scalable architecture to support evolving needs.

THE SOLUTION

A future ready platform

ULaw partnered with The Pixel to redesign the eStore into a future-ready platform that offers a seamless and consistent experience. The new site reflects ULaw’s brand across design and content, simplifies the enrolment process with configurable course options, and is optimised for speed, especially on mobile, through the use of the performance-first Hyvä Magento theme. The platform now also showcases featured courses, enrolment deadlines, and endorsements from legal industry partners, while unifying the experience for digital and physical study materials.

This resulted in:

  • Reduced user drop-off in course selection
  • Clearer enrolment flows and improved mobile experience
  • Positive student feedback on ease of use and clarity
