The Flexibility of an Open Source Platform with less Limitation

Magento Enterprise Cloud Edition, launched 12 April this year, is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environment designed specifically for Magento 2.0 and runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). It's been built and designed to power innovative e-commerce websites. One of the main advantages of Cloud Edition is its fully customizable, secure and scalable Web storefronts. It provides merchants the ability to offer highly differentiated customer experiences, simplified integration with existing systems and the ability to respond rapidly to changing technology, as Mark Lavelle, CEO of Magento Commerce explains: "Magento Enterprise Cloud Edition defines the post-SaaS commerce platform era. It's a first-of-its-kind in-market solution and a major differentiator in the broader Magento product portfolio. "With this new platform running on AWS, we ensure that our merchants have the agility to respond to a rapidly changing environment, can continuously deploy innovations, easily scale to meet unexpected demand and don't have to worry about the day-to-day management of infrastructure."

Cloud Edition offers all the benefits of modern cloud computing...but also with the advantage of Magento’s successful and established architecture

So what's the main advantage for merchants? These capabilities and flexibility are designed to greatly reduce the implementation costs compared to multitenant SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) solutions (a single instance of software running on a server with multiple users). This is because much of the tailoring required with a SaaS Magento set-up is no longer required with the new PaaS cloud system, allowing merchants to tailor their technology quickly to what works best for them. Cloud Edition offers all the benefits of modern cloud computing: scalability, high resilience, PCI compliance, global availability, automated patching – but also with the advantage of Magento's successful and established architecture, backed by a global system of innovative partners and developers.

"We combined a highly performant and scalable PaaS platform with everything our clients love about Magento..."

"Magento Enterprise Cloud is a game-changer," said Steve Yankovich, Chief Product Officer of Magento Commerce. "We combined a highly performant and scalable PaaS platform with everything our clients love about Magento -- the ability to try, test and deploy new customizations to their stores in a continuous manner with no dependencies on our product roadmap or release schedule."Cloud Edition runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), known for its reliability, scalability and low costs, the reason that as many as 30 percent of Magento Enterprise clients already host using AWS.

“Magento 2.0 has been re-built from the ground up using the latest web application technologies, and implements best practice both for coding and design”

Robert Kantor, Development Manager here at The Pixel, shared his thoughts on how the new technology would benefit both developers and merchants: “The best thing about Cloud Edition for me as a developer is that Magento 2.0 has been re-built from the ground up using the latest web application technologies, and implements best practice both for coding and design. This provides merchants and solution partners with a more robust and very solid base for module developers and other integrators, allowing solution providers to build with more confidence.“Also, Magento 2.0 comes with built-in testing scripts, which although extends the time it takes to develop a new feature for a website, provides a more future-proof code which will no doubt be more efficient for merchants in the long run by reducing development costs.”
